The next walking cultural phenomenon up to the under the
influence microscope following Morrissey, is former Stone
Roses shaker - maker Ian Brown. It’s been a tough racket
since the well-documented & untimely demise of the best
band of the 90s but ian has successfully re-created his own
space with his sparkling solo work. Now we all have the chance
to see what really makes him move. Ian Brown proves he was
born under a bad sign with a selection of heavy lyrical messages,
from the gospel blues protestations of Dorothy Love Coates "99
and a half" to the aggression of the Clash, and a knowledge
and love of the history of the (rare) groove. With the sexy
bassline of Cymande and Osiris’ seminally
funky ‘Wwar on the Bullshit’, joined together
by a sack of reggae & raga beats, this is smart, sussed
and soulful...front to end. Look out for further compilations
in this series chosen by none other than Paul Weller, Paul
Heaton and Bob Geldof....
