Jazzy M is one of the most important DJs the UK
has ever produced. Jazzy's radio show Jackin Zone was Britain's
first-ever house music programme, on the legendary (now defunct)
London Weekend Radio station. He discovered Orbital, and put out
their first single 'Chime' in 1990. And in 1991, he played the first
ever record in what is now probably the best-known nightclub in
the world, the Ministry of Sound.
Jazzy can't stay still in the mix - he loves to
cut the records, play with them and create his own sounds and effects
to revise the tracks before he plays them or as he mixes them. Some
young DJs mistakenly believe that the magic of DJing is in concealing
the mix, obscuring the artform, but Jazzy's DJing is characterised
by that heart-stopping sound of that new tune elbowing its way into
the mix, that surge of excitement as you recognise the next cut
coming around. And with the clutch of classics on this '7 Live'
CD, if you don't already recognise the orgasmic twisted funk of
'Bel Amour', the word-chopping cut-ups of Chocolate Puma or the
blissful call to love that is 'Finally', you soon will.
